PCI SVA

Challenge
The Payment Card Industry Security Vendor Alliance is an industry group that provides information, products and services for businesses affected by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

The PCI DSS is a global standard that details security management, policies and procedures intended to enhance the security of consumers' personal financial data. Any company processing, storing, or transmitting payment card data must be PCI DSS compliant or risk fines and the loss of their ability to process credit card payments.

Payment Card Industry Security Vendor Alliance (PCI SVA) was formed in January 2007 by eight leading data security companies (ConfigureSoft, Cyber-Ark, Modulo Security, Proginet, Protegrity, Reflex Security, SafeNet, and Verisign) to assist organizations in their compliance efforts, educate the payment card industry about the business value of achieving PCI DSS compliance, and heighten general awareness of the PCI DSS data security requirements.

Tactics

  • Worked with technology and business reporters to establish PCI SVA Executive Board members as primary sources for PCI DSS coverage.
  • Provided reporters with backgrounder briefings and new angles for their PCI DSS and payment card data security coverage.
  • Helped PCI SVA promote the organization to potential new members via press releases, media coverage and industry outreach.
  • Positioned PCI SVA as an industry advocate on data security issues on the local, state and federal levels...
  • Monitored workshop, presentation and awards opportunities, and prepared briefings and support materials that enabled PCI SVA to take best advantage of these events.
  • Developed a media campaign to support and promote PCI SVA events, seminars, and workshops.
  • Created collateral enabling PCI SVA members to easily and effectively self-promote their association with the organization.

Result
PCI SVA has added 60+ organizations to its membership roster over the past year. PCI SVA executive board members have been established as the primary PCI DSS industry sources for reporters in mainstream, technology, and trade media. Additionally, PCI SVA board members offer expert opinions and server as industry advocates when data security issues and legislation are reviewed by local, state and federal government officials and representatives. BlinnPR outreach efforts have resulted in strongly positive publicity for PCI SVA and its members, helping the organization successfully fulfill its mandate to assist and educate retailers and other organizations around the world about the benefits, challenges and best ways to achieve PCI DSS compliance.
